Of the eight CPI cities in East Java, all of them experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sumenep Regency at 1.17 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Surabaya City at 0.65 percent.
Inflation occurred due to a fairly high price increase, as indicated by the increase in most indexes of the expenditure group. Of the eleven expenditure groups, eight groups experienced inflation, two groups experienced deflation and one group experienced no change. The expenditure group experiencing the highest inflation was the food, beverage and tobacco group at 2.12 percent, followed by the transportation group at 0.81 percent, the personal care and other services group at 0.54 percent, the food and beverage/restaurant supply group at 0, 32 percent, household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group by 0.17 percent, housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group by 0.11 percent, clothing and footwear group by 0.09 percent, and the health group by 0.07 percent, while the expenditure groups that experienced deflation were the information, communication, and financial services group by 0.06 percent and the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.02 percent. The group that did not change was the education group.
The inflation rate for the calendar year December 2021 is 2.45 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (December 2021 to December 2020) which is also known as the inflation rate throughout 2021 is recorded at 2.45 percent.
