Abstract

Of the eight CPI cities in East Java, five cities experienced inflation and three cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Surabaya at 0.37 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Malang at 0.03 percent, while the highest deflation occurred in Sumenep at 0.16 percent.
Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in most indexes of the expenditure group. Of the eleven expenditure groups, nine groups experienced inflation, one group experienced deflation, and one group experienced no change. The expenditure group that experienced the highest inflation was the education group at 1.49 percent, followed by the health group at 0.55 percent, the food and beverage/restaurant supply group at 0.48 percent, the equipment, equipment and household routine maintenance group at 0. 24 percent, food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.21 percent, transportation group by 0.16 percent, clothing and footwear group by 0.14 percent, housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group by 0.06 percent and the personal care and other services group by 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that experienced deflation was the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.15 percent. The information, communication, and financial services groups did not change.
The August 2021 calendar year inflation rate is 1.33 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2021 versus August 2020) is 1.88 percent.
